About Kate Williams of KW Marketing
Kate Williams, (31) based in Exeter, Devon, is a leading digital marketing expert and the founder of renowned digital agency KW Marketing.
After a decade working for big lifestyle brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, BMW and Nintendo, honing her expertise and craft, in 2017 Kate launched her own consultancy focused on delivering outstanding results, helping ambitious brands to THRIVE and grow through powerful and impactful digital marketing strategies.
Frequently recognised with award nominations across the South West of England, Kate, an email marketing specialist at heart, has organically grown and built a full-service digital marketing agency with offices in Devon and London, which has evolved to specialise in supporting a diverse range of clients in eCommerce and food & drink.
As the CEO and founder, Kate is one of the UK’s leading specialists for strategic digital marketing. Alongside her small but mighty team, she offers a suite of services designed to get results including digital marketing consultancy, social media both organic and paid, email marketing, Google ads and website design, Kate also hosts workshops and masterclasses for brands looking to increase their revenue and boost their business via digital marketing.
Kate’s story
Growing up in a male-dominated family, Kate (who is the only girl, with 3 brothers) was inspired by her father’s drive and determination for business. As the MD of a popular textiles business with over 70 stores, she witnessed her dad’s strong business ethic as well as his passion and empathy for the staff he worked with and saw how that in turn shaped the business to be highly successful.
While two of her brothers went on to follow in their father’s footsteps and build careers in the textile industry and another brother carved out a successful sports career playing rugby for England, as the baby of the family Kate felt she had a lot to live up to, she wanted to show that girls could also be successful, and demonstrate what she could do too.
Aged 18, she shunned the typical university education route and opted for diving straight into her career, landing a sought-after PR and marketing job in London that could get her foot inside the industry door and her place on the career ladder. Yet feeling homesick for Devon and her family, after eight months she returned home where she took the skills she’d learnt and began her career in digital marketing while being able to progress and grow from her home in the South West.
Kate was lucky enough to have two bosses who shaped her career. The first sparked her love of the eCommerce world during her time working in the head office of The Range, leading her to specialise in this area. She was also inspired by an ‘absolute girl boss’ in the early days of her career; Kate became a digital & design specialist at Mercedes-Benz before becoming a generalist marketer and leading the way for digital within the business. Mentored by a key female leader, Kate was educated in data-driven insights and became an expert in using data to create impactful digital campaigns, a foundation that is now at the very heart of her successful agency.
In 2017, after excelling in marketing agencies and honing her client relationship skills, Kate decided it was time to go it alone. She launched KW Marketing and quickly won her first client, a leading business in the South West within the food and drinks industry.
Specialising in email marketing, Kate rapidly became known as the ‘go-to’ for data-driven campaigns that food and drink businesses within the eCommerce space could see tangible results from. At one stage in her journey, she was ranked #1 on Google for freelance marketing consultant in the UK, a testament to her knowledge, expertise, and client servicing.
By April 2022, KW Marketing was flourishing and expansion began at pace. Kate grew her agency by hiring specialist talent to support more clients and expand the services on offer.
The business was turning over £160k per annum and enquiries were flooding in, a result of the impeccable reputation Kate had built over the previous 5 years, and the time had come to grow as an agency and scale up. With ambitious goals of reaching over £300k of turnover in the next year, she recruited a team of brilliant experts and the business has now grown to an experienced and specialised team of four, as well as opening a London office alongside the HQ in Devon.
Moving into 2024, KW Marketing will double down on its specialism supporting businesses in the thriving eCommerce food and drink industry. They will build on their proven success offering strategic digital marketing and consultancy to passionate business owners looking to grow their businesses, harness the power of digital marketing and expand into retail and direct-to-consumer (D2C) trade.
Kate is on a mission for KW Marketing to become the UK’s number one food and drink digital marketing agency, supporting passionate, driven small and medium businesses in this area to shine, be heard, and put themselves on the map.
